Ada Sophia Noble of Chil Australia was born in 1862 in Chil to John Noble and Sarah Ann (Eales) Noble. She had siblings John Albert Gray Noble, Lillias Maude Noble, Evaline Noble, Eurydice Eva Noble, Lottie Alex Noble, Archibald Noble, Horace Boswell Noble, and Clara Louise (Noble) Wadelton. Ada Noble died at age 85 years old in 1947 in Bleigh.

In 1862, in the year that Ada Sophia Noble was born, British citizen Anna Leonowens, a widow, accepted a job in Siam (now Thailand) to teach the children and wives of the King of Siam - he had 39 wives and concubines and 82 children. Taking her son with her and sending her daughter to England for schooling, she taught in Siam for 6 years - until the King died.

In 1891, Ada was 29 years old when James Naismith, at the Springfield Massachusetts YMCA, invented the game of basketball. Originally using two peach baskets and a soccer ball, he created the game to keep his students active during the long, harsh New England winters.
