He had siblings Ellis A Cantril, John William Cantril, Gertrude Emily (Cantril) Cox, Irvan Eugene Cantril, Lance Henry Cantril, Edna Elsie Cantril, Pearl Rosie Cantril, Rosa Belle Cantril, James Elliot Cantril, and Anna Lee Cantril. He was in a relationship with Josephine H Cantril, and had a child Warren E Cantril. Adam Cantril died at age 75 years old on December 17, 1976 in Denver, Arapahoe County, and was buried in December 1976 at Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery 10201 North Grant Street, in Thornton, Adams County.

In 1901, in the year that Adam Cantril was born, Teddy Roosevelt became the 26th President of the United States. TR, as he was known, had been Vice-President for 6 months when President William McKinley was assassinated. At age 42, he became the youngest President to serve although John Kennedy, at age 43, was the youngest President elected. He was a popular progressive and was elected to a second term in 1904 as a Republican, winning 56.4% of the popular vote and 336 electoral votes.

In 1918, Adam was 17 years old when on November 11th, an armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany, ending the fighting on the Western Front in World War I. This meant a complete defeat of Germany although Germany never formally surrendered. It took another six months of negotiations to sign an actual peace treaty between the warring parties.
