Addison Mitchell McConnell III was born on February 20, 1942 in Sheffield, Colbert County, Alabama United States to Julia Odene McConnell and Addison Mitchell Mcconnell II. He married Sherrill Lynn Redmon on March 15, 1968 in Sheffield, Colbert County and they later divorced in 1980 in Sheffield. They had children Eleanor Hayes McConnell, Claire Redmon McConnell, and Porter Redmon McConnell. He married Elaine Lan Chao on February 6, 1993 in Washington, District of Columbia County, District Of Columbia.
