Adelaide Maria Deleissegues was born in 1845 to Maria Concepcion Muñoz and Olivier Mathuran Deleissegues, and had siblings Alexander O. Deleissegues, Albert Oliver Deleissegues, Justina Clara Dana, Adela Henderson, and Jose Roberto Deleissegues. Adelaide Deleissegues died at age 77 years old in 1922.

In 1845, in the year that Adelaide Maria Deleissegues was born, on September 9th, a potato blight began in Ireland, leading to the Great Famine - also called the Great Hunger and the Irish Potato Famine. About one-third of the population of Ireland had been dependent on the potato and the failure of potato crops led to a million people dying and the emigration of another million people.

Marines from the ship the USS Decatur, stationed in Elliott Bay, along with about 50 Seattle settlers, fought Native Americans in the area.
