    Fritz Rossknecht was born Sept. 19, 1919, to Gustave and Mary (Marion) Rossknecht in Grenora, ND. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1935 and served in the South Dakota National Guard. He served in the US Army from 1941 to 1945. He later achieved the rank of captain in the National Guard. He married Faye Gay in Alexandria, LA on Nov 18, 1944. He began his career with the Veterans Administration in Hot Springs. He later transferred to the VA Domiciliary in White City, OR and returned to Hot Springs in 1873 as Chief of Domiciliary Operations. He retired in 1975 after 35 years of civil service. Fritz was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and past commander of Hot Springs Veterans of Foreign Wars. He received numerous military awards and was honored as "Civil Servant of the Year" for his contributions to veteran and civic organizations. He was an avid gardener and fisherman, and a skilled woodworking craftsman. He is survived by his wife, Faye Rossknecht, Hot Springs; son, Gary Rossknecht, Klamath Falls, OR; daughter, Sue Drysdale, Rapid City; son, Tim Rossknecht, Jakarta, Indonesia; daughter, Lib Rossknecht, Windsor, CA; daughter, Nan Noteboom, Rapid City; six grandchildren; sisters, Rose Englebert and Lucy Wilson, both of Hot Springs, Irene Wolverton, Lake View Terrace, CA, and Alice Stevens, St. Louis, MO; and two brothers, Raymond Rossknecht and Gus Rossknecht, both of Hot Springs. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 6 pm today at McColley's Chapel of the Southern Hills in Hot Springs. Services will be at 2 pm Tuesday at McColley's with the Rev. Peter Dahlberg officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs. A memorial has been established for the Hot Springs Ambulance Service.
