Alan George Cuttriss DFC of Wandana Heights, VIC Australia was born on April 16, 1923 at At home 19 Latrobe Terrace, in Geelong West to Leslie Cuttriss and Hazel Emily (Dunt) Cuttriss. He had siblings Frank Leslie Cuttriss and Norma Hazel Kochan. Alan was baptized circa 1923 at Saint Paul's Anglican Church 181 Princes Hwy, in Geelong. He married Alison Jean Cuttriss on October 1, 1949 at Saint Paul's Anglican Church 181 Princes Highway, in Geelong, Greater Geelong City County, Victoria, and had a child Sally-Ann Cuttriss. Alan Cuttriss died at age 53 years old on August 12, 1976 at Bellarine Private Hospital in Whittington, Geelong County, VIC, and was buried on August 15, 1976 at Barrabool Hills Cemetery 168 Barrabool Rd, in Highton.

Alan enlisted in the RAAF on 31st January 1942. He trained as a pilot & was based at Driffield Yorkshire England with 466 & 462 RAAF squadrons being awarded the DFC. He then went on to India with Transport Command until the War ended
