    Albert Earl Bollinger was born to Clarence Earl Bollinger (1905 - 1964) and Sophie Elizabeth Gamble (1912 - 2000). Both of his parents were born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He had one sister, Alice. Albert Bollinger was a veteran who served in the Korean Conflict and then went on to attend college, earning a degree in Education and Mathematics. He married in 1952 and went on the teach high school math and own and operate a florist shop with his wife, Janet.     Albert Earl Bollinger, 74, a lifelong resident of Derry, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at his home. Born Nov. 6, 1931, he was the son of the late Sophie Elizabeth Gamble Bollinger and Clarence Bollinger. He was a veteran of the Korean War, stationed in Japan, who specialized in cryptography. After serving his country, he attended Lock Haven University, where he received a bachelor of science degree in education/mathematics. Mr. Bollinger began his career as a high school math teacher with the Norwin School District, and continued teaching at the Greater Latrobe School District until his retirement from teaching in 1993. In addition to being a teacher, Mr. Bollinger and his wife, Janet, owned and operated Derry Florists and Greenhouses since 1970. Al was a 1949 graduate of Derry Borough High School, playing football and being on the 1948-1949 WPIAL Section 16 Basketball Championship team. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Derry, Masonic Lodge of Derry, a past officer and a current member with American Legion Post 324 of Derry, member of the Rod and Gun Club of Derry, and Monroe Furnace Camp of State College. Other past accomplishments include serving on the Derry Borough Council, as well as coaching Derry Midget Football. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Clark Bollinger; a son, Brian, Derry; daughters, Carol Slifka and husband Richard, Derry Township, and Amy Maloy and husband Mark, Butler; a sister, Alice Susa and husband Jerome, Latrobe; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Arlene and John Wingard, Derry; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family were received at the McCabe Funeral Home, Derry, where funeral services were held Wednesday with the Rev. Keith H. Lohr officiating. Interment was in Coles Cemetery. - The Blairsville Dispatch, Blairsville, Pennsylvania, 11-10-2006.
