Albert Edward Gluyas of Parkville, City of Melbourne County, VIC Australia was born in 1902 in Northcote, City of Darebin County to Laura Jane (Dredge) Gluyas and Samuel John Gluyas. He had siblings Samuel Radford Gluyas, Doris Gluyas, Laura Angelina (Gluyas) Oldis, and Elsie Jane (Gluyas) Evans. He married Leila Mary Collings in 1929, and died at age 42 years old on April 4, 1945 in Parkville, City of Melbourne County. Albert Gluyas was buried at Melbourne General Cemetery College Cres, in Parkville.

GLUYAS. - On April 4, at Royal Melbourne Hospital, suddenly, Albert Edward, son of Laura J. and the late Samuel Gluyas, of Northcote, loved brother of Radford, Elsie, Alfred ( deceased ), Laura, Alleen, Doris ( deceased ). GLUYAS. - On April 4, Albert, loved son-in-law of Rosina and the late Joseph Collings, brother-in-law of Winnie.

In 1902, in the year that Albert Edward Gluyas was born, the first Rose Bowl game was played in Pasadena, California. Called the "Tournament East–West football game" at the time, the Michigan Wolverines (East) played the Stanford Indians (West) - the Wolverines won 49 - 0. (The Stanford captain requested an end to the game with 8 minutes remaining.) The Tournament of Roses Parade began in 1890 and the football game began as a way to boost tourism in the area.

In 1918, by the time he was 16 years old, on November 1, an elevated train on the Brooklyn line of the subway - driven by an inexperienced operator because of a strike - tried to navigate a turn at 30mph. The limit on the curve was 6 mph. The 2nd and 3rd cars of the 5 car wooden train were badly damaged and at least 93 people were killed, making it the deadliest crash in New York subway history.
