    Albert Geoge Werning III, 67, Clayton, SD, dies Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Avera St Benedict Hospital, Parkston SD. He was born on Feb 21, 1941 on the family farm to Albert and Hildegard (Guericke) Werning. On July 8, 1962 he married Betty Jean Moege To this union was born, Tami (Darin) Krogman, Albert (Jean) Werning, Michelle (Kelly) Krueger and Wendy (Greg) Lacey. On April 25, 1980 he married Linda Plagman. He Farmed all in life west of Clayton, Hutchinson County and was involved with Werning Custom Harvesting following retirement. Life time member of St Peters Lutheran Church, where he served on numerous boards and held various offices. He served as Director of South Dakota Wheat Inc and on the Board of Directors for the Detox Center in Mitchell SD. He was also a 30 year Member of Alcoholic Anonymous. Siblings: Arthur (Hilda) Werning, Elmer (Marcella) Werning, Elma (Harold) Huber, Marvin (Alvina) Werning Step Father: John Buenning married to Hildegard. In-Laws: Emil and Ida Moege

In 1941, in the year that Albert George Werning was born, on June 25th, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 8802, prohibiting racial discrimination in the defense industry. EO 8802 was the first federal action to prohibit employment discrimination - without prejudice as to "race, creed, color, or national origin" - in the U.S. Civil Rights groups had planned a march on Washington D.C. to protest for equal rights but with the signing of the Order, they canceled the March.
