Holtz Grandparents
Carl Holtz Sr. and his wife, Bertha, emigrated from Germany in 1900. In the photo are Ewold, Otto, Ida, Carl Jr. (Charley) standing in the back row. In the front row are: Albert, Carl Sr., Herman, Bertha, and Elsie. All the children were born in Germany except for Albert and Herman. Albert was born on the ship crossing the Atlantic. Reinhold and Gustav, the two eldest sons were also born into this union, but are not in this photo. They were conscripted to the army while on the train emigrating from Germany. Reinhold later returned to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Gustav was never heard from again.
