Albert Speedie Rutherford of Linwood, Renfrewshire County, Scotland United Kingdom was born on April 17, 1896 in Northamptonshire County, England to Sarah (Godfrey) Rutherford and David Speedie Rutherford. He had siblings David Rutherford, Edward Speedie Rutherford, Laurence Speedie Rutherford, Grace Speedie (Rutherford) MacDougall, David Speedie Rutherford, Lena Speedie (Rutherford) Haggart, and Walter Speedie Rutherford. He married Jeanie Isabella (Munro) Rutherford on April 24, 1919 in Perth, Perth and Kinross County, Scotland, and they were married until Albert's death in 1971. Albert Rutherford had children Sarah Helen Rutherford, Jeannie Munro (Rutherford) Carrigan, and Martha Woods (Rutherford) Johnstone.

Accompanied by only a piano, his voice recordings became a big seller and did much to popularize the new-fangled gramophone. He had to sing into a metal "horn" that relayed his voice to a metal disc. And the songs had to be under 4 and a half minutes!
