  • Introduction

    Alberto's father was Ramon Perez, born about 1903 in Mexico, death unknown. His mother was Ester Guillen, 1899-1930, born and died in Texas. He married Celia Porras (born 1920) and they had son Alberto (1030-1940) He then married Consuelo Ibarra (1920 - 1973) in circa 1937 and they had 3 children - 2 daughters and a son. Alberto's WW 2 draft card (Oct 16 1940) stated that he lived in El Paso, Petra Rincon Guillen (his grandmother) was his next of kin, and he was working for the WPA on the Fort Bliss Project. He was 5' 11 1/2" tall, weighed 140 lbs, had brown hair and brown eyes, a light brown complexion, and had a mole on his chin.

In 1916, in the year that Alberto G Chacon was born, suffragette Jeannette Pickering Rankin became the first woman elected to the House of Representatives as a Representative at large from Montana. She was the first woman to hold an elected Federal office. Holding the office for two years, she ran again in 1940 and served another two year term. Montana had granted women unrestricted voting rights in 1914, 6 years before women got the vote nationally.

In 1935, by the time he was 19 years old, on September 8th, Louisiana Senator Huey Long was shot by Dr. Carl Weiss. Weiss was shot and killed immediately by Long's bodyguards - Long died two days later from his injuries. Long had received many death threats previously, as well as threats against his family. He was a powerful and controversial figure in Louisiana politics (and probably gained power through multiple criminal acts). His opponents became frustrated with their attempts to oust him and Dr. Weiss was the son-in-law of one of those opponents. His funeral was attended by 200,000 mourners.
