Alexander Calder Vipond 1904 - 1965

Alexander Calder Vipond was born in 1904 in Springhurst, Wangaratta Rural City County, VIC Australia to Thomas Borland Vipond and Harriet (Howard) Vipond, and had siblings Evelyn Alice Mary Bon (Vipond) Hanley, Lucille Elizabeth (Vipond) Heley, George Richard Vipond, Florence Jean (Vipond) Waters, and John Howard Vipond. He married Adelaide (Barnett) Vipond, and had children Judith Vipond and Barbara Vipond. Alexander Vipond died at age 60 years old on October 15, 1965 in Ballarat, Ballarat City County, and was buried at Ballarat New Cemetery in Invermay Park, City of Ballarat County.

In 1904, in the year that Alexander Calder Vipond was born, the United States acquired the Panama Canal Zone. Now an unincorporated territory of the U.S., the Canal Zone had been previously held by the French, who were constructing a canal. The U.S. took over the construction of the Panama Canal and it was finally finished in 1914, when it was opened to commercial shipping. The United States held the Canal Zone until 1979.
