He had siblings Charles William Oakman, Annie Elizabeth (Oakman) Guy, Charlotte Christina Oakman, Mary Rebecca (Oakman) Asling, and John James Oakman. He was in a relationship with May Elizabeth (Wicks) Oakman Edwards, and had children Alfred Ernest Oakman and Frederick William Oakman. Alfred Oakman died at age 29 years old on December 22, 1921 at Caulfield Hospital Kooyong Rd, in Caulfield, Glen Eira City County, and was buried at Brighton General Cemetery in Caulfield South.
