  • Introduction

The Cobram Courier. Victoria. 19th April 1906. - MR. ALFRED W. PRANKERD. MR. Alfred W. Prankerd ( brother of Mrs. Tuck, of Cobram, also eldest son of Mrs. Prankerd and brother of Albert Prankerd, both of whom at one time resided in this town ) met with a shocking accident last Saturday night, which terminated fatally. It appears that Mr. Prankerd, who was assistant stationmaster at Daylesford, went out from the station office at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday to take delivery of the staff from the fireman of the Melbourne train. Just as he was walking across the platform a large collie dog rushed past him and tripped him, causing him to fall over the edge of the platform right in front of the engine, which carried him several yards before the train could be pulled up. It was found necessary to raise the engine with jacks in order to release the injured man, whose brother-in-law, Mr. A. Raisbeck, saw the accident. Mr. Prankerd was immediately conveyed to the hospital in a conscious state, but he gradually sank and died this morning. The guard irons on the locomotive, had partially severed one leg at the thigh, besides inflicting internal injuries. Deceased was a painstaking and popular official. He was just 37 years of age, and leaves a widow and six children.
