Alice Lillian Cawsey 1903 - 1986

Alice Lillian (Cawsey) Skehan of Camberwell, City of Boroondara County, VIC Australia was born in 1903 in South Yarra to Sarah Emily (Ashworth) Cawsey and Henry Percy George Cawsey. She had siblings Henry Robert John Cawsey, Henry Cawsey, Lancelot Shalford Cawsey, Geoffrey Myril Cawsey, Jessie Lorraine Cawsey, and Jack Ashworth Cawsey. Alice Skehan married William Alan Skehan in 1930, and died at age 82 years old on June 20, 1986 in Camberwell.

Containing several essays on the African-American experience in America, much of the book was based on Du Bois' own life. The book was one of the very early works in the science of sociology.

In 1920, by the time she was 17 years old, on November 2, radio station KDKA began broadcasting in Pittsburgh, PA. This was the first commercial radio broadcast in the United States. Westinghouse, a leading manufacturer of radios and the backer of the station, chose the date because of the Presidential election. People liked it because they could hear about the results of the election between Harding and Cox before the morning papers arrived. Four years later, there were 600 commercial stations broadcasting in the U.S.
