4 Memories, Stories & Photos about Allen

A brilliant talent for photography, a lover of art and all things beautiful especially Da Vinci's "Juniper" at the National Gallery in Washington, DC, a man victimized by mental struggles that sometimes brought him to a stand-still and - by choice - isolated.

We remember Allen with absolute clarity as a brilliant photographer, wildly generous with his time and resources and an uncommonly kind and gently man. Spiritually fragile, or maybe just eccentric, he lived a solitary life in the 1980s and 1990s when we knew him. His portraits of various members of our family brighten our home, including those of of our children. Typical of Allen's completely uncommercial approach to life is in a letter he wrote regarding an attempt to make payment: "Thank you. It is far too much for a very tiny amount of work. Please, please ask Kim (one of our daughters) to come for some beautiful portraits and NO MORE MONEY PLEASE!
