Alpheus K. Meaker was born on May 28, 1830 in Broome County, New York United States to Samuel H. Meeker and Sarah (Finch) Meeker, and had siblings Analiza (Meeker) Spafard, Stephen VanRennsalear Meeker, Eli Samuel Meeker, Deborah C. (Meeker) Rulison, Oliver W. Meeker, Elijah Meeker, Andrew Meaker, Lorenzo Dow Meeker, Elvira Sarah (Meaker) Vosburg, and Samuel Meeker Jr. Alpheus Meaker died at age 85 years old on April 15, 1916 in Johnson City.

    The use of Meaker and Meeker names are interchangeable within this same family. He was the son of Samuel Meaker (Meeker) and Sarah H. Finch. Alpheus K. Meaker married Rebecca A. Disbrow in 1850. Alpheus K. Meaker was a trustee of Methodist Episcopal Church, along with Francis Rulison who was an original Trustee when the church was organized in abt. 1870. Nelson Rulison is also listed as a Trustee of the church in 1885 at Conklin Forks, Broome Co., NY.

    Binghamton Press Obituary - Alpheus H. Meaker, 15 April 1916, page 18, Alpheus H. Meaker, aged 85 years, died this morning at 12:30 o'clock, at 155 Floral avenue. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank Prentice of Worcester; two sons, E. A. Meaker and E. G. Meaker; one sister, Elvira Vosburg of Hawleyton, two brothers E. S. Meaker of this city, and Samuel Meaker of California. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of his son, E. G. Meaker, 7 Carhart Avenue, and will be private. Friends wishing to view the body may do so anytime tomorrow. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. [Article dated Saturday, 15 Apr 1916] Died of bronchial pneumonia on April 15, 1916. Buried on April 17, 1916. NOTE: Mrs. Frank Prentice = Jessie Mae Clark was also listed as Jessie A. Meeker. Jessie was taken in by the close neighbor Alpheus Meeker when her father and mother died in the 1870's and was apparently identified on the 1880 census as Jessie Meeker, daughter of Alpheus. No other census before or after identifies the mysterious Jessie as a Meeker.
