I knew him as "Uncle Al". He was married to my Great Aunt, Gloria, who was born on the Passamaquoddy reservation. While I have no idea how he made his way to Portland, Maine, he certainly made his mark on our family. He was kind and generous to all of us. If I'm not mistaken, he had a son on the reservation - though not by Gloria. Al was a wonderful man and I was very glad to know and to be loved by him. I'll check with some cousins to see if they have any photos to share.
