Alta Elizabeth Lewis, 97, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Hamilton County Extended Care in Syracuse, Kansas. She was born September 20, 1901, in Finney County, Kansas, the daughter of Albert "Bert" and Sophie (Curtis) Finkenbinder. She attended school in Scott County, Kansas. A Hamilton County resident since 1918, she was a farmwife and homemaker, and belonged to First Christian Church. She enjoyed various hobbies including assembling and dressing dolls, crocheting, painting pictures and numerous woodworking projects for her grandchildren. In 1926, she married William G. Lewis in Lamar, Colorado. He died in 1986. She was also preceded in death by an infant son; a son, Donald, in 1972; three brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by a son, Duane Lewis, Garden City, Kansas; a brother, Albert Leo Finkenbinder, Wichita, Kansas; a sister, Lena Molz, Syracuse, Kansas; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral will be 2 p.m. MST Monday at First Christian Church, Syracuse, with Bruce Sneed officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery. Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. MST today, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. MST Sunday and 9 to 10 a.m. MST Monday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse.
