    Alton George Edalgo was born on June 24th, 1924 in Dillard, Georgia to John Robert Edalgo (1889 - 1989) and Zula Tyson Edalgo (1896 - 1964). Both of his parents were born in Georgia. He had six siblings: five brothers, including Arthur, who was born in 1912, and Tyson, who was born in 1917, and one sister, Minnie Elizabeth, who was born in 1915. Alton Edalgo married Lucy Yvonne Johns (1930 - 2013) and they had six children: Mike, Linda, Ronnie, Laura, Kim and Lisa. A veteran, Alton served in the United States Army during World War II. He enlisted on January 4th, 1943 in Fort McPherson, Georgia.

    Born to John Robert Edalgo (1889 - 1989) and Zula Tyson Edalgo (1896 - 1964) in Georgia, Alton was part of a large family of six siblings. On his June, 1942 World War II draft card, Alton, age 18, was described as being 5 feet 11 inches tall and as weighing 145 pounds. He had brown eyes, black hair, and a "light" complexion. Alton and his wife, Lucy, had six children: Mike, Linda, and Ronnie, Laura, Kim and Lisa. He was survived by 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Alton was a member of American Legion Post 202 and a former Vienna City Councilman.

In 1924, in the year that Alton G Edalgo was born, Macy's department store in New York held its first "Thanksgiving parade" on November 27th at 9a - during church services but leaving plenty of time to attend the big football game between Syracuse and Columbia universities. The parade was held as a way to promote the opening of the “World’s Largest Store” and its 1 million square feet of retail space in Manhattan’s Herald Square. The parade was 6 miles long and included floats, Macy's employees dressed as clowns, cowboys, and sword-wielding knights, and animals from Central Park Zoo. Santa Claus, of course, brought up the rear - opening the Christmas shopping season for Macy's.
