In 1921, when he was only 15 years old, on March 4, Warren G. Harding became President. Previously a U.S. Senator, Lieutenant Governor, and Ohio State Senator, Harding was a popular President. In 1942, Alvin was 36 years old when from January 7th through April 9th, the Battle of Bataan was fought in the Philippines. Named the Bataan Death March, it was later declared to be a war crime.
