Amber Cherie Shrader was born in Riverside, California on September 25, 1988. Due to a rare birth defect, she was the recipient of two heart transplants during the course of her life. Even though we all knew this day would come, it still came too soon. She died in her home, unexpectedly, Friday, July 21, 2006. In many ways, Amber was like a typical teen, which is as we wished for it to be. She went to school, got a driver license, a new to her car, which she loved. She had a My Space profile. She had a penchant for texting and emailing friends and running up phone bills to unmentionable amounts, much too the chagrin of her mother. But she lived her whole life with the backdrop of medical issues. Amber did not fear death because she had faith that she would live with Jesus when her time came. Amber knew that the body she was born with would not last and knew that the average heart transplant only survived a few years. Still, she lived her life as if she had many years to come. She graduated Yucaipa High School on June 15th, this year, and had registered to attend Crafton College in the fall. She said she always wanted to be a teacher, and that was what she planned to study. She had taken child development classes in high school and did volunteer work at Totally Kids and Crafton College with children and medically fragile youth. Amber was very involved in her youth program at the First Assembly of God Church in Beaumont. Her life was short but very full. She participated in dramatic productions and was preparing to sing a solo at her church this month.
