Amine (Taktak) Ilker 1910 - 1975

Amine (Taktak) Ilker was born on March 25, 1910 to NURİ TAKTAK and HATİCE TAKTAK, and had siblings Hadi Tekeli, Halil Tekeli, Hanife Tekeli, Şahika Tekeli, and Fahika Tekeli. She married Yusuf İlter on May 10, 1948, and they were married until death separated them on May 18, 1972. She had children Şükrü İlter, İzzet İlter, and Mustafa İlter. Amine Ilker died at age 64 years old on January 29, 1975.

In 1910, in the year that Amine (Taktak) Ilker was born, the Mann Act, also called the White-Slave Traffic Act, was signed into law. Its purpose was to make it a felony to engage in interstate or foreign commerce transport of "any woman or girl for the purpose of prostitution or debauchery, or for any other immoral purpose". But the language was so broad that it was also applied to consensual sex between adults when wished.

In 1931, by the time she was 21 years old, on May 1st, the Empire State Building opened in New York City. At 1,454 feet (including the roof and antenna), it was the tallest building in the world until the World Trade Center's North Tower was built in 1970. (It is now the 34th tallest.)
