Dying at the age of 40, Amos E. Greathouse never married and died after a "courageous battle with cancer." His headstone says "In Loving Memory Of Our Brother". Amos married Heather Tucker and they had one child, Mason.

Both of his parents were born in West Virginia, as were his maternal grandparents and great-grandparents. He had eight siblings: Charles, Dean, Ronald, David, Molly, Connie, Sharon, and Charlotte.
