Andrew Hasenyager 1885 - 1972

Andrew George Hasenyager of Overton, Dawson County, Nebraska was born on June 6, 1885 to Henry Christopher Hasenyager and Caroline Catherine (Carle) Hasenyager. He had siblings Arthur Hasenyager and Edward Hasenyager. He married Julia Hasenyager on October 26, 1949, and died at age 87 years old on June 20, 1972. Andrew Hasenyager was buried in June 1972 at Overton Cemetery in Overton.

In 1885, in the year that Andrew Hasenyager was born, on June 17th, the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor. Two hundred thousand people and hundreds of boats greeted the statue. It had to be assembled but that had to wait until the pedestal was completed the following April.

In 1906, by the time he was 21 years old, English biochemist Frederick Hopkins concluded that vitamins are essential to the human body and that a lack of vitamins caused scurvy and rickets. Scurvy and rickets were both huge problems in sailors that were at sea for extended time and the addition of vitamin C, vitamin D, and calcium in their diets helped eradicate the problem.
