Andy taught school in the 1950s at North Junion (high) School on Nebraska Street (now torn down & replaced by an elder care facility) and later at Central High in Sioux City. He built radio station WOI in Ames...and later in his life he returned to Ames to teach at Iowa State University. He was a dedicted teacher, a true intellect, and taught us not to be ashamed to say "I don't know," if we don't know something--especially in lieu of relgious conjecture. He never married and dedicated himself to his teaching...he also worked evenings at Radio Station KSCJ (Sioux City), doing the 10PM news.
In the mid 1970s I caught up with Andy (W0DSP) on my ham radio and we communicated in Morse Code which I'd learned in his radio club (but never got licensed until 15 years after I left Central. Andy pounded out, "that's the longest period of time to prepare for a license that I've ever learned about. Congratulations at long last."
