"Ange" was born in Palermo, Sicily as Angelo Joseph Lanza. When Europeans came to the U. S. and were processed through immigration at Ellis Island, it was common for names to change due to misinterpretation, accents, and dialects. When spoken in Italian, the first vowel is stressed; final 'a' is not stressed and comes out like the end of a breath, such as Lahn-zah. American ears may not hear the final "ah", hence, Lanza was documented as Lantz.
