  • Introduction

    Born in Sicily in 1887, Angelo arrived in New York in 1902 at the age of 15. Little is known about his childhood, but he lived in the Bronx most of his adult life. In 1935, he moved to New Jersey, where he lived the rest of his life. Angelo J Villano was married to Anna Marie Moretti (1887-1971) and had children Theresa (1908-1979), Conchetta (1911-2002), Mary (born 1914), Angela E. (1915-1996), Joseph Marco (1917-2005), Alberto Marco (1920-1979), Rose Mildred (1920-2005), Constantine (1922-1926), Helen Violet (1925-1953) and Paul Villano born in 1931. He and his wife had 11 children in all and he was survived by 9 of his children, 29 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Angelo worked as a laborer for the railroad in his young adult years, as a plasterer later on, and as a foreman for Belle Mead Depot, from which he retired in 1960. See Angelo Villano: Obituary.

    When he was in his early 20s, Angelo was a laborer on the railroad. When he was in his 50s, he was a plasterer in his own business. He also worked as a foreman at the Belle Mead Depot, as a foreman, from which he retired in 1960.

    Angelo was married and he and his wife, Anna, had 11 children. He was survived by 9 of his children - four sons and five daughters, 29 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. On his 1917 World War I draft card, Angelo reported that his birthday was August 14, 1887 and that he was 29 years old. He was described as being "short" of "medium height" with brown hair and brown eyes. On his 1942 World War II draft card, Angelo was recorded as being 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He had brown eyes, black hair, and a "light brown" complexion. He was 54 years old. He was a retired volunteer member of Hillsborough Fire Company Number 1.

    ANGELO J. VILLANO HILLSBOROUGH - Angelo J. Villano, 77, of 10th Street, Flagtown, died yesterday at Foothill Acres Nursing Home, Neshanic. Retired foreman at the Belle Mead Depot, he also was a retired member of Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Company, Number 1. Surviving are his wife, Anna; four sons, Joseph of New York City, Albert and Christopher of Flagtown and Paul of San Diego, California; five daughters, Mrs. Felice Pioli of South Branch, Mrs. Joseph Incao of Flagtown, Mrs. Edward Bergemann and Mrs. Anthony Millazo of The Bronx, New York, and Mrs. Charles Calabrese of Somerville; 29 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville, followed by an 1 a.m. requiem mass at Mary Mothe of God Roman Catholic Church, Flagtown. The Reverend Anthony J. Pluta will be celebrant. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hillsborough. -The Central New Jersey Home News (New Brunswick, New Jersey) Thursday, July 22, 1965 on page 8.
