Anita (Leon) Ventura was born to Gillermo Leon (born 1883) and Francisca Martinez (1890 - 1929). Both parents were born in Mexico. Anita Leon married Caetano Ventura (1886 - 1963) on July 15, 1920, in Phoenix, Arizona, and they had thirteen children: six daughters, including Estella, Juana, and Jene, and seven sons, including Ernest, William, Luis, and Richard Ventura.

Classified in the 1920 federal census as "white", Anita was Hispanic, of Mexican heritage. Both of her parents had been born in Mexico.

A native of Arizona, Anita was raised in Phoenix and married there in 1920. In her late 20s, Anita moved to Belvedere, Los Angeles County, California, and she lived in Los Angeles County for the rest of her life.
