Ann Burton was born in 1798 in Winster, Derbyshire County, England United Kingdom to John Burton and Sarah (Dore) Burton, and had siblings Zilpah Burton, Mary Burton, Lydia Burton, Frances Burton, Henry Burton, John Burton, Sarah Burton, and Stephen Burton. She was in a relationship with Henry Caldwell, and had children Mary Burton and Ann Caldwell. Ann Burton died at age 66 years old in 1864.

In 1800, Ann was merely 2 years old when on August 30th, educated blacksmith Gabriel Prosser organized a slave revolt. He wanted to capture Richmond and kill all whites - excluding Methodists, Quakers, Frenchmen, and the poor - and become king of a new black nation. The revolt failed, he was captured and hung. Slave laws were tightened in Virginia.

In 1836, she was 38 years old when on June 15th, Arkansas was the 25th state admitted into the United States of America - and the 13th slave state in the Union. Originally part of the Louisiana Purchase, the area became the Territory of Arkansas in 1819 and the Territory immediately began the process of expelling native Americans to west of the Mississippi.
