In 1895, in the year that Anna Riddick was born, on May 18th, Italy's first motor race was held. The race was 58 miles long - from Turin to Asti and back. Five cars started but only three completed the race. It was won by Simone Federman who drove a Daimler Omnibus - his average speed was 9.6 mph.

In 1902, by the time she was merely 7 years old, about 150 thousand United Mine Workers went on strike in eastern Pennsylvania for a wage increase and more suitable hours. They eventually got a 10% raise and their workday was reduced from 10 hours to 9. Because winter was coming and most people at the time heated their homes with coal, President Teddy Roosevelt arbitrated between the owners and the workers - the first time that the Federal government arbitrated in a strike.

What A Day At The Beach Looked Like In The Past
A day trip at the beach to play in the water and walk on the sands has always been a popular family pastime. While swimming, BBQing, and bringing toys to the beach largely remains unchanged, bathing suits and what is considered 'proper beach attire' has definitely evolved.
