Anna was born Antonio Vita Potenti - named for her murdered father Antonio. Her name means "Antonio's Life" - she was raised without her father and came from a family of 7. She grew up fast and helped her mother care for her brothers by learning to keep house and cook at the very young age of 10. After her eldest sister's untimely death at the age of 23 due to the spanish flu epidemic (H1N1 virus) Anna moved with her family to Pittsburgh, PA. There she met Alberto Roberto DeSantis (an arranged marriage) and she was wed at the age of 16 on August 6, 1925. She then moved with her husband to Canton, Ohio and there raised her 8 children.
Anna was an amazingly intelligent woman, a true lady, and spoke both Italian and English beautifully. Her grammar and penmanship impeccable. She had exquiste taste in decorating, cuisine, sewing and embroidery. She was truly best example of what a properly raised woman should be of her time.
Although, her immediate family suffered great hardships after her father's murder, they all perserverd and rose above their misfortunes and created beautiful lives for all their descendents.
