Annie Catherine (Goodhart) Motter was born in 1871 to Marion Shoffner Goodhart and Mary Grizella (Stough) Goodhart, and had siblings Samuel Edwin Goodhart, George Alexander Goodhart, Martha Jane (Goodhart) Throne, Cyrus Anson Goodhart, and Mary Victoria (Goodhart) Trough. Annie Motter died at age 81 years old in 1952.

In 1871, in the year that Annie Catherine (Goodhart) Motter was born, on October 8th, 4 major fires started on the shores of Lake Michigan - in Chicago (Illinois), Peshtigo (Wisconsin), Holland (Michigan) and Manistee (Michigan). The Chicago fire is the most well known of them because it left almost 100,000 people homeless. But the Peshtigo Fire killed around 2,500 people. The casualty count made it the deadliest fire in US history.

In 1881, when she was just 10 years old, on October 26th, the "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral" happened in Tombstone, Arizona. The gunfight lasted only 30 seconds - the Earps and Doc Holliday on one side and the "Cowboys" on the other side. The McLaury brothers and Billy Clanton of the Cowboys were killed. Two of the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday were wounded.
