3 Memories, Stories & Photos about Anthony

Anthony J Traina
Anthony J Traina
Tony Traina was my father and he passed-away back in 1990 while playing golf at city park in New Orleans. My father worked for the Brother Corporation for over 30 years and retired when he was 49-years old. He loved to play golf, fish and was a huge Tulane and Saints Fan.

02-12-2021: My father has been dead now for 31-years. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were at City Park in New Orleans playing golf together! He was a good golfer, much better than I will ever be! He always stayed in the middle of the fairways, while I stayed in the brush much of the time! He was a good pitcher and putter, while pitching and putting continues to be the weakest parts of my game! We never kept score when we played together and we never competed against one another! We just relaxed, unwound from the troubles of the day and played golf without a score card and without a care in the world! My father taught me that there were greater rewards in life than winning or losing, as long as you just gave it your best shot! He'd often say, "Stay calm, keep your cool and just play ball!" I stayed off of the course for 22-years after he died, then one day I took his clubs out of my closet and began to play again, and I have been playing nearly every day for the past 9-years and loving every minute of it! When I go to hit a ball I can still hear him in my ear giving me a list of instructions, so I suspect that to some degree - daddies never really go-away!

I played golf with a gentleman the other day who asked me if I had ever hit a hole in one. I said "YES", many times. At the end of the day, he looked at me and said, "NOW I BELIEVE YOU"! While playing I had just barely missed two hole in ones. One on a par-4 hole by less than 6-inches and another on a par-3-hole by a little over 2-feet. I play golf every day, sometimes all-day!
