Singing with a tragically injured hand
Gloria and I went with Archie on an errand with a trailer. We were waiting in the car while Archie was handling the trailer which dropped and his fingers were just hanging off his hand. He jumped in the car and drove singing to the hospital. Never a word not a swear word not any sound of pain just singing. We were 8 or 9 years old and I will never forget the Quality of character it took to react in that way to his fingers being crushed off. I admired him the rest of my life I didn't know him very well although I Was in their home more than in mine and never heard any conversation from him he was so quiet.. He never yelled or spoke harshly to the kids. These are the memories I have from childhood of Archie.
