    ARMANDO JOSE DORESTE RODRIGUEZ: "You never forget what you leave incomplete." - For as much time as you spend deliberating whether or not you're actually ready, alternating between spiraling downwards into crippling panic then upwards again towards elation, nothing really matters less once you're abroad. You're there, and it's cold. Your German is slow and embarrassing; BigMacs come with pumpkin seeds on the bun, and the color of everything seems slightly not good enough. You inevitably lay down that night with a deep lust for the asphyxiating monotony of a couch, a remote, and anything with cheese that can be thrown into a microwave oven. Then you wake up without the slightest idea about who it was whining and whimpering the night before. It was no one you'd want to have lunch with, to say the least. You're in Graz now. You used to call this place "Anywhere But Here". It's precisely upon this realization, that you are now, finally, "Anywhere But There", that it all really begins. There is no real process to it, no transitional period, and if there is, in any case, it doesn't last long. It takes about as long as finding a light switch in the dark, and it has the same effect. Everything after that was a whirlwind. The first night may have lasted about as long as the six months that followed. It says much about the pettiness of time, how when you declare yourself ready to begin living in the moment, it decides to wake up and make that moment as short as possible.
