  • Obituary

    Our dear Armine was so full of life all of her days. Even into her 80s she described herself and someone who was always out and about - going here and there, spending time with friends and family. Armine was so smart! She never used Google search in her whole life but could remember everything and spell correctly without a computer. She had the best sense of humor, always laughing and enjoying people. Even in a text message her fabulous wit came through. Armine passed away peacefully in her home in Township of Washington, NJ on February 2, 2022. She is survived by her cousin Hagop of Santa Catarina, Brazil and her niece Fay of Long Island, NY. Her surviving friends will deeply miss her. From NJ to Canada, her memory is a forever-treasure in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

In 1935, in the year that Armine (Ayvazian) Kassardjian was born, the BOI's name (the Bureau of Investigation) was changed to the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) and it officially became a separate agency with the Department of Justice. J. Edgar Hoover, the Chief of the BOI, continued in his office and became the first Director of the FBI. The FBI's responsibility is to "detect and prosecute crimes against the United States".

In 1941, Armine was just 6 years old when on June 25th, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 8802, prohibiting racial discrimination in the defense industry. EO 8802 was the first federal action to prohibit employment discrimination - without prejudice as to "race, creed, color, or national origin" - in the U.S. Civil Rights groups had planned a march on Washington D.C. to protest for equal rights but with the signing of the Order, they canceled the March.
