Arthur worked at J. Capps & Sons, Ltd. a great part of his life. From 1946 until 1974 when the organization closed, he was employed as a clothing cutter. His talent was special orders that had to be tailored to each individual customer and made from cloth of his choosing with buttons and lining to match. Sometimes the customer would send his own material along with his order. This was called "man's own goods." Often he would also send a picture of himself to help the employee tailor the garment to the man's figure. Many times those who sent pictures had a special feature or handicap to their body such as one low shoulder or a hump back.
