In 1868, in the year that Arthur Stelle was born, on February 24th, three days after his attempt to dismiss United States Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton - who was opposed to Johnson's leniency towards the former Confederacy - the US House of Representatives voted (126 to 47) to impeach Andrew Johnson. Johnson was later acquitted in the Senate by one vote short of the required 2/3rds.Senators crossed party lines to keep Johnson as President.

In 1909, when he was 41 years old, the U.S. penny was changed to the Abraham Lincoln design. The Lincoln penny was so popular that it soon had to be rationed and it sold on the secondary market for a quarter. Abraham Lincoln was the first historical figure to be on a U.S. coin - which was released to commemorate his 100th birthday. This penny was also the first U.S. cent to include the words "In God We Trust.".
