Axel Palmer 1885 - 1953

Axel Leonard Palmer of Turtle Lake, Barron County, Wisconsin United States was born on May 28, 1885 at Ljunby, Sweden, and had a brother Walfred Palmer. He was married to Anna Palmer on December 4, 1915, and they were together until Axel's death on March 7, 1953 in Turtle Lake, Barron County. He had children Eleanor Steglich, Muriel Stecker, and Joyce McCarthy. Axel Palmer was buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Polk County, WIS USA.

    He was born in Sweden and immigrated to the United States at age 17. He came to Virginia, Minnesota and later worked in Hibbing in the iron ore mines as an engineer and shovel runner. After his marriage to Anna Peterson in 1915 they lived in Hibbing for a year and half and then moved to a farm near Horseshoe Lake in Polk County, Wisconsin where they lived until his retirement in 1948. They then lived in the Village of Turtle Lake until his death.

    He took great interest in public affairs and was an active member of many organizations. He served as school district treasurer for 25 years, Director and President of the Turtle Lake Creamery for 25 years, was member of the Odd Fellows and Farmers Union.
