Ending WW2 - Secrets of the Manhattan Project
My uncle, Bardolf Storaasli, played a key role to end WW2,
not on the battlefield but as lead engineer at Allis Chalmers,
Milwaukee on the Top Secret Manhattan Project developing
1000+ Calutrons with Ernest Lawrence for Y-12 in Oak Ridge
TN to seperate sufficient fissionable U-235 from U-238 for
the Little Boy bomb dropped on Hirsohima. Dwespite leaflets
and warnings this shocked Japan to surrender and end w2 within
a week after "Fat Boy" the 2nd Plutonium bomb was dropped
finally bringing peace to the world.

Altho Bar's father, a Lutheran minister, wanted his oldest son,
Bar to also train for the ministry, Bar excelled in Math & Science,
was creative & innovative going on to complete degrees at both
St. Olaf College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
where her completed his Electrical Engineering degree in 1937.
At Allis Chalmers, he became lead engineer of Transformer
Development & design, so when Allis Chalmers was selected by
the Manhattan Project to develop Calutrons to separate U-235
from U-238, he was put in chare to expand Ernest Lawrence's
"Proof-of Concept" Berkeley Cyclotron to large production
"racetracks" of 1000+ Calutrons at Y-12 to separate U-235
electrically. Copper was scarce so 14,700 tons of silver was taken
from the West Pont Depository to Allis Chalmers, Milwaukee WI
via rail to use in both the Calutron windings & large bus bars.
