Beatrice Maud (Gorrie) Davies of Ballarat, City of Ballarat County, VIC Australia was born on September 16, 1880 in Clunes, Hepburn Shire County to George Dingwall Gorrie and Isabella Small Gorrie. She had siblings George Alfred Dingwall Gorrie, Margaret Jesse Gorrie, Robert Small Gorrie, Albert Edward Gorrie, Alfred Ernest Gorrie, Arthur James Dingwall Gorrie, Emily Dingwall Gorrie, Christina Stewart Gorrie, Ethel Jane Gorrie, Norman Leslie Gorrie, and Camille Gorrie. She married William Davies in 1905, and had children Norman Thomas Davies and Norman Thomas Davies. Beatrice Davies died at age 77 years old on December 20, 1957 in Ballarat, City of Ballarat County.

In 1880, in the year that Beatrice Maud Gorrie was born, on February 4th, five members of one family in Ontario, Canada were killed and their farm was burned by a mob. Called the Black Donnelly Massacre, the Irish family had been feuding with other citizens of the town. No one was ever convicted.

In 1915, at the age of 35 years old, Beatrice was alive when The Birth of a Nation opened in February. A silent film, it was the most ambitious film to date and is considered a classic. Three hours long, it starred Lillian Gish and was directed by D. W. Griffith. The movie was based on the book The Clansman and told the story of two families (one pro-Union and one pro-Confederate) and their relationship during the Civil War and Reconstruction. The KKK was shown as "a heroic force".
