  • Obituary

Benjamin Merrit Bigsby was born Dec. 1, 1875, in New Hartford and died Sept. 20, 1911, at his home near West Liberty. His parents died when he was quite young and his boyhood days were spent with relatives in Kansas. Eighteen years ago he returned to Iowa and for many years had made his home near West Liberty. He followed farm life and was in every way a self made man, winning his share of success wholly through earnest personal effort. March 9, 1905, he was united in marriage with Miss Bertha James, she and three children surviving. Two half sisters and two brothers also survive. While living in the South Prairie neighborhood Mr. Bigsby was a faithful worker in that church and a short time ago he and Mrs. Bigsby organized a Sudany School in the Union Valley church, near their home. The funeral services were held this afternoon 2 o'clock, from the Presbyterian church, Rev. F. M. Dowlin officiating.
