Benjamin Slobom of Australia was born in 1873 in Sandhurst to Richard Benjami Slobom and Clara Anderson Slobom. He had siblings Sarah Sloborn, Clara Slobom, Annie Elizabeth Slobom, Maud Mary Slobom, Mabel Slobom, Miriam Slobom, Lily Agnes Slobom, and Andrew Henry Slobom. Benjamin Slobom died at age 4 years old in 1877.

In 1873, in the year that Benjamin Slobom was born, on March 3rd, the U.S. Congress enacted the Comstock Law. The law made it illegal to send any "obscene, lewd, or lascivious" material through the U.S. mail. This included erotica, contraceptives, sex toys, abortifacients, information about these items, and "personal letters alluding to any sexual content or information".

In 1877, in the year of Benjamin Slobom's passing, on January 8th, the Battle of Wolf Mountain occurred in southern Montana Territory. Crazy Horse, Two Moon, and their warriors fought the United States Cavalry. The battle was a tactical draw and by May, Crazy Horse and his followers had surrendered at Camp Robinson.
