    On his World War II draft card, Bernard was described as being 6 feet tall and weighing 170 pounds. He had blue eyes, black hair, and a "ruddy" complexion. After retirement, he pursued two of his life's goals -- to study Hebrew and art. Bernard married Beatrice "Batya" Stillerman (1916 - 2008) and they had two sons, Daniel and Mark. He was survived by his wife, sons, sister, and a grandson.
