    Burdette "Bert" Gaunt was born on October 1st, 1912 in Anita, Iowa to John Gaunt (1871 - 1942) and Margaret Murphy (1888 - 1962). Both of his parents were born in Iowa. Bert had one brother, Francis Gaunt, born 1907. Bert Gaunt, age 21, was married at least three times: The first time, he married Maxine Idores Bean. age 18, born 1914, on August 2nd 1932 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They didn't have children. Bert, age 26, then married Lillie or Lillis Mae Whittington, age 19, born 1919, on August 5th, 1937 in Dakota City, Iowa. On their marriage certificate, Bert said that his marriage to Lillie was his first marriage, although all of the vital statistics for Bert are the same on both marriage certificates. They had one daughter, Norma Lee Gaunt (1938 - 2018). When he died, Bert was married to Alice Schleuger and he was survived by two daughters, Cindy and Diane. Bert was a veteran of World War II, who served in the United States Army as a Sergeant. He died at the age of 68 on May 20th, 1981 in Florence, South Carolina and is buried in Midway Cemetery in Hemingway, South Carolina. See Bert Gaunt: Obituary.

    BERT GAUNT, 68, OWNER OF COMPANY JOHNSONVILLE - Bert Gaunt, 68, died Wednesday in a Florence hospital after a short illness. Born in Annita, Iowa, he was a son of the late John and Margaret Murphy Gaunt. Mr. Gaunt was owner and operator of B & A Furniture Company in Lake City, a retired sheet metal worker and an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alice Schleuger Gaunt; and two daughters, Mrs. Cindy G. Lawrimore of Hemingway and Miss Diane Gaunt of Johnsonville. Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. today in Midway Baptist Church. Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway is in charge. - The State (Columbia, South Carolina) Friday, May 22nd, 1981 on page 34.
