    Bert passed away unexpectedly in an unfortunate accident Tuesday evening on December 28, 2010, while trying to jump-start his truck. Bert was very proud to have served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was on the U.S.S. Wasmuth during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He stayed active in the association up until his death. Bert also retired with the Kern County Fire Department after 22 years of service. He continued to stay active with the Retirees of the Kern County Fire Department. After his retirement, he worked as a truck driver for Sierra Bag for many years and then was one of the first drivers for Rezenberger. Bert is survived by his sister, Helen, and her husband, Garrett Gregory; his seven children, Lisa and Lori Pruitt, Mack Lambert, Emily Ross, Bobby, Sean and Sharla Pruitt; two grandchildren, Brookes Lambert and Evan Ross; and one great-grandchild, Hailey Lambert. He is also survived by his ex-wives, Booth Lee and Lynn Underwood; and his longtime companion, Louella Guyton. We all have proud memories of you, Bert. You will always stay in our hearts forever. Until we meet again, we love you. Graveside service with full Military Honors will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd., and again at 1:15 p.m. at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 E. Bear Mtn. Blvd. The Kern County Fire Dept. and Chaplin Bob Lechtreck will be officiating, as well as the County of Kern Honor Guard as pallbearers and the ringing of the final bell.
