William Warren Cale, farmer, parents Stephen and Mary (Hindman) Cale, m. Nancy Margaret Purdum (Purdam) in Macomb, McDonough Co, IL, USA 1870. Nancy's parents were Abraham and Mary Ann (Foster). Abraham died 1863 in US Civil War, Stones River, TN. Wm Warren and Nancy had 12 children: Alonzo (m. Nina Rhea), James, Luther Elliot (m. Evelyn Cook), Lora Martha (Harry) Elting, Cora Viola (Fred) Wiseman, Bessie May (John) Martin, Nellie Olive (died as a child), Mary "Grace", Maggie Maria "Margaret" (Carl) Whitson, Wm Ray (m. Irene Jobe), Sarah Helen, Nancy "Bertha" (Roy) Sanders.

Did you know?
In 1889, in the year that Bessie Martin was born, on March 31st, the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated. Because the elevators were not yet in operation, officials had to climb to the top of the tower - it took an hour. On May 15th, the Tower opened to the public - still without working elevators - but around 30,000 visitors still made the climb. The elevators went into operation on the 26th. The Tower wasn't considered aesthetically pleasing at the time but is now one of the most iconic structures in the world.

In 1895, on September 3rd, in Latrobe, PA, the first professional football game was played. The game was between the Latrobe YMCA and the Jeannette Athletic Club. Latrobe won 12 - 0.
