Betty Louise Lahaie Kiefer's parents were Elie Louis Lahaie (1903 - 1955) and Isabelle Christena Warren (1906 - 1943). Her known siblings were Jerold E. and Joan I. , and Dona LaHaie. Betty married William P. Kiefer (born 1927) on June 21 1953 in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho and they had children Terrence Phillip Kiefer (1954 - 2011), Bret, Doreen, Mark, and Jeri Lynn. They were married until she died.

Born in Spokane, Washington, Betty Lou was raised in Coeur D'alene, Idaho, where she was also married. Most of her adult life was spent in Rathdrum, Idaho but she died in Spokane, where she was born.

Betty Lou graduated from Rathdrum High School (Idaho) in 1946 and North Idaho College in 1951.

She won the 1988 Mother of the Year award from St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.

Betty Lou taught elementary school for one year in Bend Oregon and a year in Spokane Washington. Then she taught at John Brown Elementary School in Rathdrum Idaho for 30 years, winning the 1930 "Elementary Teacher of the Year" award at John Brown. She retired in 1990.

Betty was survived by her husband and five children, plus nine grandchildren.
